Join Jessie Chapman & facilitators for this inspirational New Zealand Yoga Hike Restore Retreat staying in a beautiful mountain view lodge outside Wanaka on New Zealand’s stunning South Island. Each day on retreat is an inspired journey of dedicated yoga practice, awe-inspiring hiking, delicious meals and juices, restorative yoga, natural stillness and yoga nidra. This is your time to relax, strengthen and regenerate in beautiful natural surrounds.
Everyone is welcome and well cared for by Jessie and the experienced Radiance facilitators. The yoga classes are designed for all, from the complete beginner to those with a regular practice, with lots of nourishing one-on-one yoga adjustments and instruction.

Jessie & facilitators
Your retreat hosts are Jessie Chapman along Lee Purdie. Jessie has been practicing and teaching yoga for more than 25 years and offering Radiance Retreats in Australia, Asia, New Zealand and Europe since 2002. Author of 4 Yoga Books including Yoga Postures for your Body, Mind & Soul (HarperCollins) and the Radiance Yoga DVD Series, Jessie loves sharing the transformational yoga retreat journey, creating space for people to deepen in yoga and to be inspired in beautiful natural surrounds.
Yoga, Restoration & Stillness
The morning yoga classes are an inspired blend of full body joint limbering and loosening, pranayama to cultivate relaxed deep full breathing and natural stillness followed by gentle warm up vinyasa yoga sequences, core awareness and working with mindfulness in the many and varied yoga postures to develop strength, flexibility, stability and correct alignment. Jessie’s yoga teaching experience, along with the facilitators, allows everyone to be supported and challenged according to their individual needs and level of practice. Variations of the postures are demonstrated to suit different energy levels and physical conditions with yoga props often used to give support along with an abundance of nourishing yoga adjustments from the Radiance team.
The afternoon Restoration yoga classes combine slow gentle stretching and opening along with Restoration yoga postures to deeply relax the body, to overcome exhaustion and fatigue and to restore energy levels. Jessie loves to share the many and varied Restorative postures and practices and their powerful healing benefits. Restoration yoga naturally cultivates an open body, relaxed full breathing, stillness and connection.
Other yoga practices throughout the retreat included guided seated and silent walking meditations and evening Yoga Nidra; guided lying down relaxation before bed.
Our Hiking Days
‘It’s about the journey, not the destination‘. Jessie has been leading Yoga & Hiking retreats in this region since 2017. When walking we are not hurrying; rather we are taking in the sights and sounds and stopping to rest, connect and absorb. Each day we will enjoy some silent walking on our trails to quieten and connect with our surrounds and within. Some hiking days include stronger trails with up and down hills, some small forest paths, some higher mountain walks and some flatter walks. People in good health and of all ages have managed the hikes well. The Wanaka area is full of stunning lakes, National Parks, mountains, rivers and glaciers. The trails we take are well trodden and average approximately 7-15 km of varying elevation with some hikes offering options to take a flatter trail or to go higher. Enjoy all our hikes or rest as needed, read in the gardens, have a massage or explore Wanaka town. More hiking and ‘what to bring’ details are emailed upon registration.
Accommodation & Location
We stay in a beautiful mountain view lodge 10 minutes’ drive outside Wanaka on New Zealand’s stunning South Island. The expansive lodge features stunning views and gardens with indoor and outdoor lounge and relaxation areas, a laundry for guest use, wi-fi and all-day refreshments. Accommodation options include Private Cabins with ensuite bathroom and spa bath. Couple’s Room with own bathroom. Single Room with king bed and shared bathroom. Twin Room with a single and king bed and shared bathroom. Bunk Room with two sets of bunks (for two guests) with shared bathroom. Rooms with shared bathrooms access large communal bathrooms with ample facilities. During our retreat an experienced local Massage Therapist is available to book for in-house sessions.
Delicious Shared Meals
Our retreat meals are lovingly prepared using fresh local ingredients and are all vegetarian, abundant and delicious. Breakfasts include a fresh morning juice and a delicious buffet selection. Lunches are prepared picnics to eat on our hike or at the lodge if resting. Dinners are delicious, abundant home-cooked meals. Our menu is all vegetarian and mostly gluten free with special dietary requests catered for. Water, teas, coffees and fresh fruits are available throughout the retreat.
Getting There, Arrival & Departure
Arrival Day: Our group pick up and meeting places are 1.30 pm in Queenstown Centre or 2pm at Queenstown Airport. The drive from Queenstown to Wanaka and our lodge takes about 1.5 hours. Upon arrival there’s time to settle into your room, relax and enjoy refreshments before a gentle afternoon stroll to stretch your legs and look around. Our first afternoon relaxation yoga class is at 5.30 pm followed by dinner at 7 pm and then Yoga Nidra, a guided relaxation before bed.
Departure Day: On the last day of the retreat yoga is a shorter class from 7 – 8 am followed by breakfast. We then depart the lodge at 9 am to arrive at Queenstown Airport between 10.30 and 11 am for returning flights. If staying on in Queenstown, our driver next drops guests to town. If you have a later flight, there are lockers at the airport to store luggage. You can then explore Queenstown before returning to the airport via the airport shuttle or a taxi.
Many airlines fly into Queenstown International Airport. If requiring accommodation before or after our retreat we suggest staying in Queenstown where there’s an abundance of accommodation options.
