Our Pyrenees Yoga Hike Retreat set high in the Atlantique Pyrenees of Southwest of France offers an abundance of adventure. Each day is a journey of the spirit with dedicated yoga practice and daily hikes staying 6 nights in a picturesque mountain village that is like stepping back in time.

Each day begins with a 2 hour morning yoga practice followed by hearty breakfast before we strap on our hiking shoes and head out on foot from our hotel for our days adventure exploring valleys, forests, peaks and lakes up high. We stop along the way to enjoy a picnic lunch and rest in the beautiful land. In the afternoons we return to our hotel for a shower and rest before some restoration yoga and a hearty regional meal at our local mountain bar.

Yoga & Adventure Days

10 am: depart for our days hike or rest & explore the local area
12.30: enjoy a picnic lunch along our hike
3-4 pm: return to our hotel for a shower and a rest

7 pm: Dîner (Dinner)

Many people join our retreats on their own and either book a single room or share with another retreat participant.

About our meals: For this retreat our meals are not included in the retreat price however we eat together at the local cafe/bar and shop at the local market for our days picnic in our day packs. We also have the freedom to try other local restaurants. 

Not included: airfares, travel insurance, train fares, meals (which we eat together).

There’s the option to skip the daily hike and relax and enjoy the picturesque mountain village surrounds.

Your Pyrenees retreat hosts are Jessie Chapman and facilitators. Jessie has been offering Radiance Retreats in Australia, Asia, New Zealand and Europe since 2002 and has been practicing and teaching yoga for more than 25 years. Author of 4 Yoga Books including Yoga Postures for your Body, Mind & Soul (HarperCollins) and the Radiance Yoga Series, Jessie loves sharing the transformational yoga retreat journey, creating space for people to deepen in yoga and to be inspired in beautiful natural surrounds.

Yoga, Restoration & Stillness

Jessie’s morning yoga classes are an inspired journey of full body loosening, limbering, breath awareness and stillness followed by gentle warm up sequences, core awareness and holding postures longer to cultivate strength, flexibility, core stability, correct alignment and awareness. There’s a focus on addressing any issues that arise from our hiking bodies, stretching and strengthening as needed. In our afternoon classes we start with some gentle releasing and stretching out after our big days hiking adventure and then move into restorative yoga postures for deep healing rest, inner connection and stillness. Our Hiking Days

It’s about the journey, not the destination‘. Jessie has been leading retreats in this region since 2008. When walking we are not hurrying; rather we are taking in the sights and sounds and stopping to rest, connect and absorb. Each day we will enjoy some silent walking on our trails to quieten the mind and connect with our surrounds and ourselves. Some hiking days include stronger trails with up and down hills, some small forest paths, some higher mountain walks and some flatter walks. People in good health and of all ages have managed the hikes well. 

Getting there, Arrival & Departure

Our scheduled pick-up and meeting place on the first day is 8.30 am at Pau Train Station. Pau is the gateway to the Pyrenees of Southwest France and is located 1.5 hours inland from Biarritz and 2 hours from Bordeaux. Guests will need to stay in Pau the night before to be at the train station in time for our train together at 8,30am.  You can get to Pau via train from Paris and other cities as well as fly into Pau International Airport from Paris, etc. From Pau we travel together to our retreat via a small regional train journey that takes us into a scenic valley and village where we alight in preparation for our first hike up to our mountain village hotel. Before we set off our bags are picked up and we may enjoy lunch at a resturant. This first hike takes from 2-3 hours. Once we arrive there’s to settle into our rooms, rest, shower and relax before our first yoga class and group welcome followed by our evening meal. On the last morning of the retreat yoga will finish at 8.30 am followed by breakfast before we pack up and make our way back to Pau via an outbound hike and local train. Full ‘getting there’ details along with what to bring, etc are emailed upon registration.
