Jessie has been teaching yoga for 27 years and for the past 22 years (since 2002) she has been offering Radiance Yoga Retreats in Byron Bay, Asia, New Zealand and Europe. Author of 4 Yoga Books (HarperCollins) including the bestseller Yoga Postures for your Body, Mind & Soul and creator of the Radiance Yoga DVD Series, Jessie loves sharing the transformational yoga practice and powerful retreat journeys; creating space for people to deepen in yoga and to be inspired in beautiful natural surrounds. During the retreat Jessie is joined by the experienced Radiance yoga adjusters and highly attuned facilitators offering an abundance of care, nourishment and healing art classes for inspiration and renewal.

Yoga, Restoration & Stillness

Jessie’s morning yoga classes are an inspired journey of full body loosening, limbering, breath awareness and stillness followed by gentle warm up sequences, core awareness and holding postures longer to cultivate strength, flexibility, core stability, correct alignment and awareness. There’s a focus on addressing any issues that arise from our hiking bodies, stretching and strengthening as needed. In our afternoon classes we start with some gentle releasing and stretching out after our big days hiking adventure and then move into restorative yoga postures for deep healing rest, inner connection and stillness. Click here to read more about the yoga.

Our Hiking Days

‘It’s about the journey, not the destination’. Our friendly, knowledgeable, qualified and bilingual Asturian hiking guides take us on beautiful mountain trails, averaging approximately 12-15 km’s per day. Our days are filled with a soulful blend of scenic hiking, historical insights, traditional experiences and wonderful food. We Savour local Asturian cuisine, sample aromatic cheeses and sip the traditional beverage, Sidra Asturian, a cider made from locally grown apples. We trek through scenic gorges and alongside babbling brooks; dine in local taverns; explore 10th-century churches and relax under Spain’s oldest yew tree, El Tiexo, planted more than 1000 years ago in a sacred meadow. When walking we are taking in the sights and sounds and stopping to rest and absorb. Some hiking days include stronger trails with up and down hills, some small forest paths, some higher mountain walks and some flatter walks. People in good health and of all ages have managed the hikes well. Our days include some silent walking. There’s also the option to skip the days walking and simply relax at the hotel and enjoy the surrounds.

Delicious Shared Meals

Our home-cooked Spanish vegetarian breakfasts and dinners are delicious and abundant vegetarian using lots of fresh and local ingredients. For lunch we either buy supplies for a group picnic on our hike or eat at local restaurants where we sample all sorts of regional specialities. Breakfasts include all beverages and dinners include a glass of local wine. Special Dietary requests can be catered food.

Getting There, Arrival & Departure

Arrival Day: Our group pick up on Day One is 5pm at the Oviedo Bus Station (next door to the train station and right in the town’s centre). If flying into Oviedo (Oviedo/Asturias International Airport) there are buses running on the hour from the airport to the bus station.  Once you’ve arrived at the retreat there’ll be time to get settled before our first group yoga class followed by a welcome dinner.

Departure Day: On the last day yoga finishes early followed by breakfast and a return drop off to Oviedo Bus Station by 10 am.  If you have an earlier flight, a private transfer can be booked at an extra fee.

Extra nights: We suggest arriving to Oviedo a day – or two – before our retreat and staying at Hotel Fruela, which is in a central location in the beautiful old part of the city. There’s so much to see in Oviedo with the cathedral being the start point for ‘The Camino Primitivo’ on the Camino De Santiago walk.

Ways to get to Oviedo: Traveling to Oviedo is part of the beautiful European journey. A favourite route is flying into Madrid and training it – via scenic plains and mountains – to Oviedo. Or taking the train first to San Sebastian for some colourful tapas and port city beauty. From San Sebastian there’s a bus to Bilbao home to the infamous Guggenheim Museum. From Bilbao continue southwards via bus to Oviedo, which arrives at the Oviedo Bus Deport where our group pick up is. Another favourite route is flying into Paris and training it to Biarritz in the Southwest corner before training it over the border into San Sebastian for some port city days and then the bus journey south to Oviedo. Or if needing to be more direct there is an international airport 45 min from Oviedo (Asturias) with regular flights from Madrid and other points in Spain and Europe. You can check flights from anywhere in the world using www.skyscanner.net. If flying into Oviedo there are buses running on the hour from the airport to the bus station. Madrid is 5 hours south of Oviedo via fast train and San Sebastian 5 hours north east by bus or car. For train travel information within Spain see www.renfe.es. For bus service see www.asla.es.

More group pick-up and retreat information is emailed upon registration.

EUROPEAN YOGA RETREAT TESTIMONIALS

“Having just spent a fantastic week in Spain, I am delighted to recommend Jessie Chapman’s Radiance Yoga Hike Restore Retreat for anyone who wants an active and stimulating holiday. I feel both rested and reinvigorated, and ready to explore the world further. The hiking and scenery is incredible, and the intensity of the daily yoga helped me make some real gains (even as a beginner). The combination of mental and physical challenges and restorative contemplation was perfectly balanced and both teachers were really helpful and knowledgeable. Oh, and the food was delicious! Fabulous week in an amazing part of the world.
